Urgent Statement from the National Council for Human Rights Regarding Gaza

Arab Network for Human Rights Institutions Shows Solidarity with Palestine and Calls for action to protect Human Rights Of innocent civilians 

The Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) convened an urgent Zoom meeting on October 11. The purpose of the meeting was to adopt an action plan in support of fulfillment of human rights of innocent civilians in Gaza 

The Arab Network reiterated its solidarity with the Palestinian National Human Rights Institution in response to Israeli aggressions.

Ambassador Moushira Khattab, Ph.D., President of the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt (NCHR) and Chairperson of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people. 

She called upon the occupying authorities to fulfill their responsibilities in promoting, protecting and provision of human rights according to international human rights law and the international humanitarian particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians in Times of Armed Conflict—and international human rights law. , including those guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Moreover, Khattab appealed to the United Nations Secretary-General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to organize a dedicated session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Khattab also called up various UN bodies, with the Security Council taking a leading role, to fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding human rights in Gaza. 

Khattab also expressed appreciation for all Arab human rights institutions within the network who commended Egypt’s unweavering support for the Palestinian people.
