The National Council for Human Rights and the National Academy for Information Technology Strengthen Their Partnership to Advance Digital Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

As part of its commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and advancing the principles of equality, a delegation from the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) visited the National Academy for Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID) to explore opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the field of digital accessibility and enhancing inclusive digital services that ensure equal access to information and services for all.

 

The NCHR delegation included Dr. Shireen Farag, Member of the Council and Chair of the Committee on Human Rights in the Digital Space; and From the technical secretariat of the council Dr. Ahmed Ishak, and Mr. Mohamed Fouad.

 

The delegation was received by Dr. Abdel Moneim El-Sharkawy, President of the National Academy for Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities, along with senior officials from the Academy. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the Academy's pioneering experience in leveraging technology to empower persons with disabilities, highlighting innovative assistive technologies and digital accessibility solutions that promote equal access to information and digital services.

 

Discussions also focused on building upon the progress achieved in enhancing the National Council for Human Rights' official website, which has recently been upgraded to comply with internationally recognized digital accessibility standards in Arabic and English. These improvements aim to enable persons with disabilities including persons with visual and hearing impairments to access the Council's information and services independently and without barriers.

 

The meeting further explored future avenues of cooperation in digital service development, technical knowledge exchange, and capacity building, while drawing on national and international best practices in digital accessibility. These efforts contribute to advancing a human rights-based approach to digital transformation and fostering a more inclusive digital environment.

 

This visit, the second of its kind following a visit by an NCHR delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Mamdouh to the Academy last year, reflects the continued institutional cooperation between the two sides and builds on their joint efforts to promote digital inclusion and empower persons with disabilities to exercise their rights on an equal basis with others, in line with Egypt's National Human Rights Strategy and Egypt Vision 2030.
