Mr. Mohamed Fayek, President of the National Council for Human Rights commended President decision No. 204 of 2017, promulgated by Presdident Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, approving Egypt’s accession to the African Union Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Corruption, adopted in Maputo, Mozambique, on 11 July 2003. The decision was published in the Official Gazette in its issue last Sunday, 22 August 2020. The President of the Council explained that the ratification of the Convention comes as a complement to Egypt's significant efforts to combat corruption. The Convention contributes to strengthening African cooperation in preventing and combating corruption, since corruption is one of the most serious negative phenomena affecting the integrity of societies and hindering the normal flow of investments needed to help achieve progress and sustainable development. Mr. Mohamed Fayek stressed the importance of strengthening all necessary measures to prevent and combat corruption in all its forms, as fighting against corruption is a social necessity for the promotion of economic, social and political rights. He also stressed the importance of encouraging individuals and civil society institutions to participate actively in preventing and combating corruption.
