NCHR lauds the proposed legislative amendment aimed at extending the application period for NGOs status adjustment

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) lauded the Parliament’s and government initiative, represented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and members of Parliaments, proposing a legislative amendment to extend to the application period for NGOs status adjustment by at least 6 months. The original deadline was set to be January 11th, 2022.

NCHR calls upon the Parliament and the Senate’s presidency and members to accelerate the passing of the proposed amendment before the original deadline to enable NGOs of legalizing their status according to the NGOs law issued in July 2019, and the law’s executive regulations issued by the Prime Minister on January 11th, 2021.

Subsequently, NCHR commends this initiative which is in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s announcement of 2022 as the year of civil society in Egypt. Moreover, the initiative shall enable NGOs to apply for status adjustment online, which underpins the country’s digitization efforts.

In this regard, Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of NCHR, stated that starting the New Year with this positive procedure will have promising outcomes on civil society’s efficiency, noting that NGOs represent a true partner in the process of development in the country, along with State institutions.
