The National Council for Human Rights and the European Union celebrate the International Human Rights Day

The National Council of Human Rights (NCHR) together with the European Union celebrated the International Human Rights Day.

The event was held at the premises of the National Council of Human Rights. Along with the President of the NCHR and the Ambassador to the EU, the event was attended by representatives of civil society organizations and youth, the Minister of Planning, the Minister of International Cooperation, the Minister of Social Solidarity, the President of the National Council for Women, the President of the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons and representatives of the international community.

Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the NCHR declared in her speech that Egypt believes that human rights are the way to welfare and they are a national objective to build the New Republic and achieve prosperity and sustainable development. She also stated that developing a national strategy and endorsing it by President El-Sisi in September 2021 is a proof that Egypt is serious in handling the human rights file and capable of facing the challenges.

Ambassador Moushira appreciated very much the partnership with the European Union, which has matured into the Project to Support the National Council for Human Rights. The project will focus on the implementation of the National Strategy for Human Rights, and it will require communication with the grassroots, including the political, economic, social, cultural, religious, media and education decision makers. She confirmed that the success of the project will be based on the political leadership support, stakeholders’ coordination and cooperation, and the constructive partnership between the European Union and the National Council for Human Rights.

Ambassador Moushira stated that President El-Sisi gave us the guidance when he said that “Nations stability is based on citizens’ satisfaction”.

She concluded by thanking everybody who participated and will participate in making human rights a life pattern for every Egyptian, including the members of the National Council for Human Rights, civil society, ministries and international partners.

Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation observed: “I am pleased to be here with you all today. It is exceptional to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by launching the new EU project in support to the National Council for Human Rights. A very important result of the positive and constructive partnership with Ambassador Moushira Khattab. With this project (funded by the EU with a budget of 750.000 Euros), we jointly commit to push further the Egyptian’s Human Rights agenda from now to the next two years and a half. The EU is eager to start the implementation of this new project, confident about the added value and commitment of the National Council for Human Rights in addressing the promotion of Human Rights in Egypt.”
