Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), announced that the NCHR is holding an international conference in collaboration with the Arabic Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), the National Human Rights Commission in Qatar, the Arab League, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on international solidarity and Sustainable Development Plan 2030, which will be attended by ministers, local and international active figures in human rights.
Ambassador Moushira Khattab noted that the conference will kick off on February 27th 2022, and that the inauguration session will be attended by Mariam bint Abdullah Al Atteya, President of ANNHRI, Rania El-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, Minister Nevin Al-Qabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, Minister Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Social Affairs Sector.
Furthermore, the inauguration session will also be attended by Adel Abdel Rahman Al-Assoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Mohamed Al-Nsour, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the OHCHR, Mr. Luis Martinez, the electoral program adviser in the Arab countries at the UNDP and Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Executive Director of the ANNHRI.
The first session of the conference shall address the role of national human rights institutions and UN agencies in implementing the Sustainable Development Plan 2030, while the second session shall address international solidarity and Sustainable Development Plan 2030, and the third session shall address SDG goal 16.
On the second day of the conference, three sessions will be held, the first on statistics and sustainable development indicators “gauging goal 16” and the importance of cooperation and interaction between national institutions, civil society and statistics administrations, and the second session under the title “No development under Israeli occupation and under terrorism” while the last session witnesses a general discussion and proposals for cooperation and action plan during the next stage.
