Ambassador Fahmy Fayed appointed Secretary-General for the National Council for Human Rights

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), today in its meeting, chaired by Ambassador Dr. Moushira Khattab, President of NCHR, has appointed Ambassador Fahmy Fayed, as NCHR Secretary-General. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, NCHR Vice-President.

Ambassador Fahmy Fayed has held a number of prominent positions, most notably deputy minister of foreign affairs for parliamentary affairs, deputy minister of foreign affairs for financial and administrative affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of the Egyptian Diplomatic Representation Mission in Berlin, and Egypt’s Ambassador to the UAE and Poland. Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany, Santiago in Chile, Harare in Zimbabwe, Berlin in Germany, Abu Dhabi in the Emirates, and Warsaw in Poland. He also served as Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament in the League of Arab States.

Furthermore, Fayed has received a number of awards and nominations, most notably; Order of the Republic from Egypt, the Order of Merit of the first class from the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Polish Order of Merit of the Commander of the first class.

During the meeting, the NCHR President and members welcomed the new Secretary-General, and extended her thanks to Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, NCHR Vice-President for his significant efforts to conduct administrative matters in the council in the absence of a Secretary-General.

Ambassador Dr. Moushira Khattab noted that this move completes the legal structure of NCHR. She pointed out that the NCHR has been engaged in local and international activities, relying on NCHR members efforts who constitute a valuable addition to the council.

The appointment of the NCHR Secretary-General took place in accordance with the law no.94 of 2003, amended upon the law no.197 of 2017.
