The National Council for Human Rights (Civil and Political Rights Committee) held a hearing session for a number of press sites under the theme “Press Freedom.. Freedom of Expression and Information Circulation”. The session was held on Wednesday, March 30th 2022 at the NCHR’s headquarters.
The session was attended by NCHR members; Dr. Ismail Abdulrahman, George Isaak, and Ghada Hammam.
The hearing session was inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Moushira Khattab, NCHR President, who highlighted the important of similar meetings held by the NCHR’s Civil and Political Rights Committee. She noted that the right to access information is a non-negotiable human rights, stressing that the NCHR is seeking to enforce human rights.
For his part, Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, NCHR Vice-President, commended this series of meetings, describing them as an unprecedented collaboration with civil society organisations, political parties and press sites.
Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, head of the NCHR’s civil and political rights committee pointed out that this series of meetings takes place under the framework of the committee’s action plan, noting that the committee has previously held similar meetings with human rights organisations and political parties. He then pointed out that the committee shall hold a session attended by all concerned authorities with journalism and media; Press Syndicate, Egypt State Information Service, the Supreme Media Council, and the Supreme Council of Journalism.
The hearing session addressed a number of issues related to freedom of expression and information circulation, raising the freedoms ceiling in the country, and promoting the desired democratic practices.
