NCHR mourns Dr. Gaber Asfour

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), with much grief and sadness, mourns the renowned literature Professor and former Minister of Culture, Dr. Gaber Asfour, who passed away this morning.

NCHR highlights that Egypt today has lost one of its key pillars of culture one who has dedicated his life to defend Egypt’s original identity and culture through his various books and intellectual contributions. Asfour played a prominent role in the Egypt cultural scene by heading a number of cultural authorities in the country.

NCHR extends its most sincere condolences for the deceased family and students.

Asfour was born on March 25, 1944 in the city of Mahalla Al-Kubra in the Gharbia Governorate.

 

On January 1999, He was appointed Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture. In 2011, he was appointed Minister of Culture, and was re-appointed on June 2014.
