The "National Council for Human Rights" concluded the joint cooperation program to support researchers

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have concluded a joint cooperation programme aimed at strengthening the capacities of researchers in NCHR, with the participation of a number of executive authorities and civil society organisations. The programme’s duration was 10 days, including a number of activities, namely:

First: Holding a training course on the implementation of a human right approach for information and sustainable development indicators. The training course was aimed at training the participants on sustainable development indicators and the methods of implementing different gauging indicators from a human rights perspective. The training course was attended by NCHR researchers and representatives of the following authorities: Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the Standing Higher Committee for Human Rights, the National Management Institute (NMI), and the Arab Organisation for Human Rights (AOHR).

Second: Holding a workshop for OHCHR, CAPMAS and NCHR representatives to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) drafted by OHCHR. Under this framework, OHCHR urged national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and statistics offices to use the aforementioned MoU draft to establish a legal framework for their cooperation.

Third: OHCHR and NCHR delegations held meetings with the Ministry of Planning, the National Council for Disabled Persons, and the Standing Higher Human Rights Committee, aiming to explore their efforts in monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ambassador Mahmoud Karem had inaugurated the programme’s activities, where he stressed the importance of cooperation with OHCHR in strengthening NCHR’s action and boosting the capacities of NCHR employees.

For her part, Sisi Shahidzadeh, Deputy Chief, National Institutions and Regional. Mechanisms Section (OHCHR), at the end of the programme, extended her thanks to NCHR, and its employees for their distinguished efforts during this programme and the fruitful cooperation in promoting the culture of human rights.

She pointed that of OHCHR provides advisory services, noting that the OHCHR has forged technical support programmes with a number of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), including NCHR in Egypt. She added that these cooperation programmes have a major importance, in light of the belief in the crucial importance of the role of NHRIs in the protection of human rights.
